For Your Eyes Only
I’m currently guest teaching a semester at Merz Akademie in Stuttgart. (Thx to Olia for the invitation!) “For Your Eyes Only” is the title of the class. We are looking into the hype about wearables like Oculus Rift, Google Glass and smart watches and all these new gadgets. What makes sense, what’s retro lost, how can we combine, what can we make better etc…? Yesterday the students were testing (fake) Oculus rift VR glasses in downtown Stuttgart. What would it be like people wearing those in public space? Today 90% of passengers in public transport are looking at their phones. Why not wearing a full VR (virtual reality) helmet?? :) Surprisingly many people recognized the dummies as Oculus gear. Will we walk around like this in a few years?? ;)

What was the architect thinking? – Swatiska BND floor plan hoax
Inspired by Travor Paglens latest pictures of Inteligence HQs released on The Intercept I took the liberty to make some slight photoshop modifications to a picture of the new BND HQ in Berlin. :)) The hoax tweet with the modified picture raised quickly a lot of attention, questions and doubts. Also the fake NYT url i added in the spirit of Fake URL trolling helped to get some fast retweets. :)) “Never hit RT before you ve seen the www!”

White To Red
Once a day, during nightfall the Berlin TV tower switches its warning lights from white to red. I love this, magic! and I’ve looked out for it often over the years. Tonight I finally caught this moment on video. Be my personal hero and watch the whole thing! Or skip to 1:00 min if you are in a rush ;))) … Or even better try to catch the moment in Berlin on the street, it is around 9:45pm currently.

‘Home Entertainment’
I am very pleased to announce the latest DVD vol.4 for the install at the MMI. Was fun to dig through big stacks of DVDs to make this 78 chapters video DVD. Enjoy! :)
‘Home Entertainment’ Aram Bartholl. 2012, 31 mins. video DVD.
DVD Dead Drop vol.4 at the Museum of Moving Image, NYC
December 7, 2012–January 31, 2013
The reign of the DVD is over, and with it the era of the extra. Before home entertainment was streamed from the cloud, movies came on DVDs that contained more than just the featured attraction. Studios added bonus content like behind-the-scenes documentaries and audio commentaries to make DVDs more desirable to consumers.
But DVDs also came with undesirable extras that were universally frustrating to captive audiences waiting for their movie to begin: unskippable content. Trailers for upcoming movies, promotional spots, and other unwanted clips all found their way immovably in front of featured attractions.
Home Entertainment is a collection of media found on DVDs from around the world that you always wanted to skip, but couldn’t: international copyright warnings, home entertainment publisher logos, studio and distributor bumpers, anti-piracy propaganda, and more. This time, however, all the clips are chaptered, so you can finally skip them.
