Decoding the Black Box

27. January – 2. June 2024
Group Show, Galerie Stadt Sindelfingen, Sindelfingen

Stitch Incoming!!

25. March 2024
Curatorial, Speed Show at Web Cafe, Athens

Monday 25th of March, 7:00 PM at Web Cafe, Eptanisou 40, 113 61 , Kypseli – Athens

with:
!Mediengruppe Bitnik with Selena Savić & Gordan Savičić , Ingrid Hideki, Joanna Bacas, Kyriaki Goni, Maria Mavropoulou, Marina Gioti, Marsunev, Nadja Buttendorf, Theo Triantafyllidis

Curated by Aram Bartholl & Socrates Stamatatos

Speed Show lands in Greece, the country of souvlaki, the sun (yes we can claim that they originated a celestial body), ouzo, feta, an enormous financial debt. Currently, Greece is also trending for all the wrong reasons namely, gentrification, queerphobia, state crimes and more dystopic incidents.
As 2024 unfolds, we find ourselves amidst a whirlwind of confusion, bombarded with a cacophony of online horrors to consume, an attention span further abbreviated by TikTok’s algorithm and the barrage of incoming stitches.

Stitches Incoming serve as a conduit for creators to engage and converse, traversing from one topic to the next. They have evolved into a new social fabric, weaving connections within an ever-shifting digital and physical landscape while also serving as a testament to personal and collective traumas, both past and present.

What unites the participating digital artists? Perhaps everything and nothing simultaneously… Departing from the traditional Speed Show setup, where artworks are carefully stacked inside internet cafe computers, and drawing inspiration from the structure of TikTok stitches, each piece seems to propel the conversation forward, or perhaps uses the next as a springboard for its own narrative.

Stitch this and stitch that, we have everything you ever wanted (maybe) ! Are we stuck in an infinite loop of sh*tposting, valuable content, the highlight of social issues, personal and interpersonal experiences?
Maybe! Come and find out…

Merkel and Blair with Speech Bubble

June 7, 2007

My project Speech Bubble seems to be quite popular among all these advertising and event companies. That was fast. Two weeks ago I did the Speech Bubble performance at the Plazes party and last weekend Merkel and Blair posed with quite similar speech bubbles during a press conference. The corner points in the wrong direction but the size and proportion are very well copied. Good job! Unfortunately they were not smart enough to have them float above the head. Does somebody know the lead design agency of VENRO (financed by Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung)?

Thx to ka_pony for the link.

Connecting first and second life

June 5, 2007

Via Joshua Kauffman I found this very interesting talk of Matt Biddulph
about Second Life, rapid prototyping and Arduino boards. His movie about creating objects in Second Life by script is astonishing. Yes i agree, the combination of affordable prototyping printers in the future, growing 3D environments and the popular DIY low tech hack culture will create unforeseen possibilties. It’s going to be fun …

“Interventions” Lier, BE – pics and movie

June 4, 2007

“Interventions” at Voorkamer Lier, BE a week ago was great fun. Christian Hasucha “The Island” was already running for 2 weeks at the Grote Markt Lier. Anybody in the city good rent the island for free and enjoy the view into the city hall and on the market place for some hours. This piece poses the questions of view and beeing viewed. On Saturday 26.05.2007 Frank Bölter with “The German Revenge” and myself with “WoW” has been invited to do workshops and perform in public space. The simplicity of Franks ship and bomb wich he buildt together with a group of organized homeless people was really impressive. The symbolic bomb was dropped from the island on the market place. In the evening Helmut Dick held a lecture about his work in public space. Good stuff!More pics on flickr

Generative Art

June 2, 2007

During Reboot 9 I got to know Marius Watz who is well known for his generative art. Maybe somebody noticed the beautifully designed program and visuals during Club Transmediale this year. Marius made the crowd gaze during his dinner talk on the first evening at reboot. The rapid prototyping model (metall) of one of his studies is of course the step into “reality” I am most interested in. Marius, thx for the good time we had at Reboot!

Reboot 9.0

June 2, 2007

I just came back from the Reboot conference in Copenhagen. Thomas Madsen-Mygdal invited me to show my projects among the web 2.0 ( a term wich is not allowed to say any more) high society 😉
It was a lot of fun. I had many interesting conversations and learned quite something about the latest web developments. My favorite talk was the interview of David Winer the creator of rss, podcasting and many other web inventions yesterday afternoon. On the question if he was doing all this to make a better world he said “No, I am doing this just for fun.” A very honest answer. I liked his attitude a lot.
