Decoding the Black Box

27. January – 2. June 2024
Group Show, Galerie Stadt Sindelfingen, Sindelfingen

Stitch Incoming!!

25. March 2024
Curatorial, Speed Show at Web Cafe, Athens

Monday 25th of March, 7:00 PM at Web Cafe, Eptanisou 40, 113 61 , Kypseli – Athens

with:
!Mediengruppe Bitnik with Selena Savić & Gordan Savičić , Ingrid Hideki, Joanna Bacas, Kyriaki Goni, Maria Mavropoulou, Marina Gioti, Marsunev, Nadja Buttendorf, Theo Triantafyllidis

Curated by Aram Bartholl & Socrates Stamatatos

Speed Show lands in Greece, the country of souvlaki, the sun (yes we can claim that they originated a celestial body), ouzo, feta, an enormous financial debt. Currently, Greece is also trending for all the wrong reasons namely, gentrification, queerphobia, state crimes and more dystopic incidents.
As 2024 unfolds, we find ourselves amidst a whirlwind of confusion, bombarded with a cacophony of online horrors to consume, an attention span further abbreviated by TikTok’s algorithm and the barrage of incoming stitches.

Stitches Incoming serve as a conduit for creators to engage and converse, traversing from one topic to the next. They have evolved into a new social fabric, weaving connections within an ever-shifting digital and physical landscape while also serving as a testament to personal and collective traumas, both past and present.

What unites the participating digital artists? Perhaps everything and nothing simultaneously… Departing from the traditional Speed Show setup, where artworks are carefully stacked inside internet cafe computers, and drawing inspiration from the structure of TikTok stitches, each piece seems to propel the conversation forward, or perhaps uses the next as a springboard for its own narrative.

Stitch this and stitch that, we have everything you ever wanted (maybe) ! Are we stuck in an infinite loop of sh*tposting, valuable content, the highlight of social issues, personal and interpersonal experiences?
Maybe! Come and find out…

Trojan Attack

June 14, 2008

Although this is not a typical virtual-real translation it has a lot to it. It is more likely an underground-mainstream translation made up by some REAL SMART marketing people. I don’t want to know how much more it costs to produce a fake beer crate counter instead of just stacking beer crates. But I like these kind of fakes in everyday life.

Watch out for the hidden trojan Coke attack!
Uuaahhh!!!
😉

Foam Booster

June 13, 2008

On my way to the DIY store I stumbled upon Dieter Lutsch’s foam pieces at VLASAK a small nice new gallery in Berlin Wedding.
Nnice! Hmm… how about a foam piece in much bigger scale? … ah there are some proposals in his portfolio.

Parasite Architecture

June 12, 2008

Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin also known as Stabi is a very popular library in Berlin where students and PhD candidates like to work in.
I am not sure what Hans Scharoun would think of this virus which took over Stabi. Temporary tubes and ventilation shafts are climbing the facade and penetrating the surface in almost Centre Pompidou style.

Nice piece!

LANDREFORM movie

June 11, 2008

The Landreform carousel yesterday was great fun. In the beginning the fire was really big and we thought for a moment the event might end up in SUPERFLEX style. 😉
Best piece I’ve seen so far at BB5.
Some more pics on trendbeheer.com through comments by kolonel. Thx!

I just finished the documentation for my latest project “Friends” which has been premiered at Futuresonic 2008 a month ago. It was a lot of fun and it came out really well. Friends will be shown again during Futuresonic-Leeds and Futuresonic-London sometime 2008/2009. Don’t miss to become part of the Friends network. 😉

Burning Car

June 9, 2008

Another car piece by the artist group SUPERFLEX.
I like their works a lot. The Burning Car is quite symbolic for rising the oil price and the hungry 3rd world. And it fits very well to Berlin. Since some years a group of left radical burn cars in the street regularly.

LANDREFORM

June 9, 2008

hehe, looking forward to take a ride in this carousel tomorrow …

LANDREFORM Carousel

June 10, 2008 at 8 PM as part of 5th berlin biennial

In 1918, Irving Berlin penned the patriotic, “God Bless America”. Twenty two years later and considering Berlin’s lyrics unrealistic and complacent, Woody Guthrie wrote his own American anthem, “This Land Is Your Land”. The song celebrated the country’s land while protesting its class inequality. Now, 68 years later, we would like to bring this song in a roundabout route to this Berlin.

Eight BMWs, the sponsor of the bb05, drive in a slow perfect circle on one of the lots of Skulpturenpark. “This Land Is Your Land” plays on their radios. From outside, the song is heard as a melodic and muffled chorus. The circling cars create an image recalling a shiny auto display, a western wagon train, or an amusement carousel. Every few rounds the cars stop to pick-up and drop-off anyone who wants to go on its circular ride.

In Landreform, the banality of economic determinism drives in a circle around itself upon a ground which will soon be developed with luxury condos and office buildings. People are asked to join the ride. As sung by Guthrie, the land of Skulpturenpark is made for you and me.
