People have been dealing with concepts and visions for shaping the world of tomorrow since time immemorial. How do we want to live? What kind of housing do we want to live in? How do we want to work? Our society is influenced by visions of the future, in particular those put forward by artists, architects, and scientists. And yet our present is always the future of yesterday, because many of these ideas remain visions, others have been brought to fruition. The exhibition How to Live? Visions of the Future Yesterday and Today at the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum presents designs for the future from the areas of art, architecture and design ranging from the Russian avant-garde to our current digital era, and plots a multifaceted history of the future.

Curious Minds: New Approaches in Design

The Israel Museum
December 16, 2011-April 30, 2012
Location: Nathan Cummings Building for Modern and Contemporary Art
Curator by Alex Ward

The exhibition presents about 30 international designers from Europe, Asia, and the US whose works map out new territories and encourage a new discourse about the role of design in shaping the world of tomorrow. Some of these designers also address – under the umbrella of Critical Design – social, political, and environmental concerns, bringing together new partnerships between designers and researchers of other fields such as science or biology.

‘Shadow Dance’ at KAdE

without comments

I am showing the piece ‘0,16‘ at the museum KAdE Amersfoort Netherlands. Opening upcoming friday 17th, 6pm. I am glad my name is not printed white on the flyer below , hehe … ;-)

“From 18 September 2010 to 9 January 2011 on show at Kunsthal KAdE, the exhibition ‘ShadowDance’.

‘ShadowDance’ is a group exhibition featuring work by more than thirty visual artists, all operating on the international art scene and all fascinated by the effect of shadow. The exhibits will vary in terms of content and form. The common denominator will be the use of shadow – and more particularly moving shadows – as a crucial means of visual expression. The artists use shadow as a metaphor for a range of (sometimes heavy-weight) themes: time – alter ego – evil – death. But the shadow phenomenon also inspires more light-hearted work involving the creation of illusions and shadow ‘play’.

At ShadowDance the electric light goes out for a while as, with an imaginary candle flickering in your hand, you are drawn into the sometimes dark but also whimsical worlds evoked by the art. ‘ShadowDance’ is the first major exhibition about the use of shadows in art ever to be staged in the Netherlands.”
