Digigripper
DIGIGRIPPER from olafval on Vimeo.
A beautiful project by Olaf Val. Climbing on a screen while depending on the changing pixels is a very physical way of interacting with the digital space. I like Olafs work a lot. He has a nice series of screen pieces and is quite involved in physical computing (arduino workshops) and more. Thanks for the invitation to Kassel, Olaf! See you around!

“A human sized 5 x 7 dot-matrix display becomes a climbing wall. The individual display dots protrude from the wall and thus form steps and handles to allow the climber to hold on to the display. However, if one uses an unilluminated dot, this dot will cave in, causing the climber to slip and to tumble to the ground. Prior to climbing the display one has to memorise a continuous series of letters, as this is the only way to change the dots one is holding on to in time for the next change of letters. In doing so one can key into a terminal a short sentence. Whoever manages to hold onto the display the longest is the winner. The longer one holds on to the display the quicker the change of letters.”
Inflated Metal
Inflated Metal Chair from Aram Bartholl on Vimeo.
Yesterday I went to see the 8.1 Pechakucha Berlin at this year DMY organised by my good friend Joachim and Iepe (famous for chess boxing in DE). I enjoyed an excellent list of 20:20 talks. Best I did like the live presentation of Oskar Zieta. Hilarious! Two welded metal plates blown up to a chair. I like that a lot. Just think of all the possibilities.
Computer Game Arrows

Mark Jenkins in Berlin?
This “Installation” looks like a Mark Jenkins piece, but the guy is unfortunately real and serious about his begging effort. I keept seeing him at Hackescher Markt Berlin lately. He reminded me so much of Mark’s “invisible” sculptures. Nobody takes notice.
Great work Mark! Was goo to meet you at the Open City exhibition last year!
Russian Gmail commercial
The russian Gmail office claims to create “Gmail art”.
Is this a new category? ;-)
“Windows Real”
At Pechakucha Berlin Johannes P. Osterhoff showed his interface art at Tape gallery yesterday night. He is also teaching at Merz Akademie Stuttgart where he and his students created this fun movie last summer on the perfect WindowsXP desktop hill near Stuttgart. :-)

“Modelling Infectious Diseases in Virtual Realities”
This talk about the “corrupted blood” plague of World of Warcraft was held by floX at 24c3. The WoW disease was programmed my Blizzard itself but went out of control and took over the whole virtual world. floX did a very precise and interesting analysis of the the plague comparing it to real life diseases. In the end he is proposing to introduce virtual diseases as a regular part of MMORPGs. I like that idea and I am wondering how to connect to real life in the end too? ;-) see also –> Snowcrash
More details and resources on the talk at 24c3 schedule
